Children and parents

Physical (in)activity

Health promotion project

Childhood obesity

This course will teach you, as a future PE teacher or sports coach, how to develop a health promotion project from A to Z that covers the entire family. Changing behaviour, motivational theories, intervention mapping and health policy are important topics in this course.

Physical inactivity is a growing health problem in Europe and worldwide. The current levels of physical inactivity are caused by insufficient participation in physical activity during leisure time and an increase in sedentary behaviour. Since families, especially parents, play a crucial role in the activity and nutrition habits of their children, involving the family is very important when focusing on changing the behaviour of children.

As a physical education teacher/sports coach, you play a key role in increasing the enthusiasm of children and youth for physical activity and making them aware of the importance of a healthy lifestyle. The goal of this course is to enhance and maintain the health of children and make sure parents become (more) aware of the ‘do’s and don’ts’ regarding physical activity and nutrition in normal daily life, both for their children and for themselves.
